Each year the Costume Institute Gala throws an elaborate party for an Honoree in fashion…Everyone who’s anyone attends and the fashion is almost couture. So don’t bother showing up in something boring or you will get snubbed. Giorgio Armani (pictured left) will be the Honoree for this Years Costume Institute Gala, so we’ll definitely be seeing a lot of celebs in Armani. Julia Roberts will be the co-chair for the evening and is wearing a platinum Giorgio Armani Prive gown, with an antique brooch. George Clooney is also co-chair and is sporting a Giorgio Armani Made-To-Measure two-button midnight blue tux. I already sense a bit of old Hollywood Glamour. Yet the theme for the evening is Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy (in respect to Iron Man maybe?)
My Picks for the UPGRADE. Diane Kruger won my heart for the night, some may say she’s not dressed for the event but I love the dress and the shoes, don’t match but are amazing, also pictured is Josh Jackson. Gisele Bundchen in Versace with Tom Brady, she’s my second pick, very superheroish. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes in Armani, I love Katies dress cause i love bold colors. Mischa Barton with Margherita Missoni, who looks to be preggers? Anna Wintour in Chanel Haute Couture, some may think her gown is a little too sci-fi, Anna Wintour is the epitome of fashion she gets my Upgrade plus she fits the theme. Christina Ricci looking very superheroish, I love the colors and the sweetheart bustier top. Eva Longoria-Parker in Marchesa, i’m not a fan of Eva but she looks beautiful. Camille Bell in Armani Prive, she did it last year, and she did it again this year, I love the hard look on top and how the dress flows down, it works. Hilary Duff in Elie Saab, the dress actually makes her look a little more feminine than she looks now adays. Dita Von Teese in Marchesa, the gown is very vintage like, Dita’s style. MaryKate and Ashley Olsen, I love Ashleys gown, it simple maybe trashy even but she knows how to work it. MaryKate i’m not sure how I feel about this dress but more of me loves it. Blake Lively in Ralph Lauren, gossip girl is really suiting her. Lastly Stella McCartney and Kate Moss, just beautiful
My Picks for the DOWNGRADE. Thandie Newton in Chanel Fall 08, it fits the theme, but it doesn’t suit her or the event. Piper Perabo, old hollywood maybe? Michelle Trachtenberg, her dress kind of looks cheap. Jennifer Connelly in Balenciaga. Lake Bell in Balmain, not for this event hun. Amanda Peet in Derek Lam, you too. Karolina Kurkova in Vera Wang Spring, it fits the theme but i’m just not feeling it. Tilda Swinton in Prada, kinda Amish. Emmy Rossum, sort of country bellish, not for this event. Eva Mendes, looks like a prom dress. Kimora Lee Simmons, i’m at lost for words. Maggie Gyllenhaal in modified Peter Som, again it looks like you’re going to the prom. Claire Danes in Narciso Rodriquez, channeling Elvira.
Others that are ALRIGHT the gowns that didn’t wow me but aren’t too horrible. Kristin Davis in Michael Kors. J.Lo and Marc Anthony. Sara Larson in Vintage Giorgio Armani. Ivanka Trump, whats up with the thing on your head. Liv Tyler in Calvin Klein. Claudia Schiffer in Valentino. Kate Bosworth, her outfit doesn’t fit in with the whole gala thing but its something I would wear dancing. Beyonce, looks alright in her usual gowns. Scarlet Johanson who just got engaged to Ryan Reynolds. Fergie, simple. Molly Sims in Versace Spring. Venus Williams.
Coachella this week brought even more celebrities to the mix then last year. It makes me wonder if I should book my tickets for next year if it will guarantee me a celebrity sighting as well as a kick ass music experience. This years line-up was glorious here are MANY of my favorites:
Friday: Tegan and Sara, Diplo, Aphex Twins, Aesop Rock, Jens lekman, Santogold, Datarock
Saturday: Prince, Minus the Bear, VHS or Beta, Mark Ronson, Rilo Kiley, Dredg, MIA, HotChip, Uffie, Yelle, Kate Nash, St Vincent, Bonde Role
Sunday: Metric, Autolux, Grand Ole Party, Justice, Chromeo, Simian Mobile Disco, Sia, Duffy, I’m from Barcelona, Kid Sister and Atrax.
This is just to name a few. I’m so jealous, This was an awesome lineup… Now on to the Celebrities.
Dita Von Teese, whom I never thought would attend such a scene event came in her vintage getup. I love this woman, but you would think she would stay away from music festivals being so pale and all. She’s just one of the few who can pull off pale. Tan is not her color.
Paris Hilton came with her beau (soon to be fiance?) Benji Madden. Her sister Nicky Hilton came with her boyfriend David Katzenberg whom i’ve seen while visiting the greater LA. Nicole Richie also came with Joel Madden and hosted a party in Palm Springs.
Kelly Osborne arrived, i didn’t catch her brother. She looks slim and pale. Maybe pale works for her too?
Kelly Osborne’s Partner from the UK Sienna Miller attended. I remember her coming to Coachella last year (2007)
Kim Stewart, she actually looks very presentable. Not the least bit tacky at all. I believe its the new haircut that changed her. I love her outfits in these photos.
Melanie Griffith came with her kids. This was an odd celebrity sighting but me thinks that she came for her kids. It would have been odder if she came with Antonio Banderas.
Newly Engaged Carmen Electra looking gorgeous. I’ve seen a picture of her ring and its not much to look at. A black diamond just doesn’t scream I’m engaged, its a very rockstar idea but its kinda ugly. Elija wood
David “the Hoff” Hasselhoff came, another odd celebrity sighting. But I believe he also came for the kids. Its nice to see him drinking something other than the ETOH (alcohol).
Steven Tyler came. Kinda weird but it makes sense.
And Lastly Prince performing. It was very odd that he was going to join the lineup. His musics great and all but he just doesn’t fit the hipster scene, unless Prince is trying to go back to his roots? But i’m pretty positive that he brings a good show.
French liqueur Cointreau has partnered up with modern burlesque model Dita Von Teese. The theme of the night was to be “Cointreau-versial.” Dita performed her famous babe in a martini glass routine. She is contracted to work with Cointreau for 2 years. The event also created a personalized drink appropriately named Cointreau Teese.
